The Ondo State Government has reinforced its commitment to skills development and youth empowerment with the award of full scholarships to 100 students of Government Technical College, Owo, covering their entire three-year training programme.
The scholarship scheme, facilitated by Deputy Governor Dr Olayide Adelami, was announced during the institution’s 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony, where school authorities and state officials described it as a major boost to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state.
Principal of the college, Mr Tayo Ijabiken, hailed the gesture as both timely and impactful.
“This intervention goes beyond financial support. It restores hope, builds confidence and renews the determination of our students to pursue technical excellence,”
“The deputy governor’s commitment shows a deep understanding of the role technical education plays in shaping a productive and self-reliant society.”Ijabiken said.
In addition to full tuition coverage, the deputy governor also approved daily feeding stipends for all 100 beneficiaries throughout their period of study, a move stakeholders say will ease pressure on families and improve student focus.
Represented at the event by former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kola Olawoye, Dr Adelami said the scholarship aligns with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s vision to reposition technical education as a driver of economic growth.
“Technical education remains one of the most reliable pathways to job creation and self-reliance,this administration is determined to equip young people with practical skills that will make them productive contributors to the economy.”Olawoye said on behalf of the deputy governor.
The deputy governor also urged the newly matriculated students to take their training seriously and maximise the opportunity provided.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Ogbeni Oluyi, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to skills-based education under its development blueprint.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to technical education is anchored on the OUREASE Agenda, which prioritises opportunity creation, economic expansion, social inclusion and security, investment like this are designed to prepare our youths for global competitiveness.”Oluyi said .
