The Federal Government has hailed Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele following the unprecedented box office success of her latest film, Behind the Scenes.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Monday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) said the movie’s performance represents a significant milestone for Nigeria’s creative sector and reflects the increasing global resonance of Nigerian storytelling.

The agency disclosed that Behind the Scenes has surpassed ₦2.1 billion in ticket sales at the Nigerian box office, becoming the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion threshold. Beyond its domestic success, the film also posted notable earnings overseas, grossing more than $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America.

“From Lagos cinemas to theatres in Abuja and international screens abroad, the film captured audiences far and wide,” the agency noted.

The NOA further highlighted Akindele’s achievement as the first filmmaker to secure the number-one position at the African box office for three straight years, describing the feat as historic.

According to the agency, the success of Behind the Scenes underscores the expanding influence of Nigeria’s film industry and strengthens Nollywood’s standing on the global stage, marking a proud moment for the nation’s cultural and creative landscape.

The government’s commendation follows widespread praise for the 2025 release, which has dominated local box office charts while extending Nollywood’s footprint beyond Nigeria’s borders.
