The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for its third and final phase, scheduled to begin on May 11, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the commission said the exercise will run until July 10, 2026, providing a final window for eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.
“The Commission wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, 11th May 2026,” the statement read.
INEC recalled that the second phase of the exercise was suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for the clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.
“It may be recalled that the second phase of the exercise was suspended… to allow the Commission clean up the register after its publication for claims and objections by registrants,” Haruna stated.
The commission urged citizens who have recently turned 18, as well as those who missed earlier phases, to take advantage of the final registration window.
“Eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases, should seize this opportunity to do so,” the statement added.
INEC also advised already registered voters seeking to update their details to utilise both online and physical channels.
“Registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or correct their biodata, are advised to access the Commission’s dedicated online portal or visit INEC State and Local Government Area offices nationwide,” Haruna said.
As part of the process, the commission disclosed that the updated voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny later in July.
“The Commission will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from Thursday, 23rd July to Wednesday, 29th July 2026,” he noted, describing the exercise as critical to ensuring “accuracy, completeness and credibility” of the register.
INEC assured Nigerians that adequate preparations have been made for a seamless exercise nationwide.
“All necessary arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise,” the commission said, urging citizens to participate actively in strengthening the country’s electoral process.
