Students Flee as School Building Collapses in Lagos

Panic broke out on Monday afternoon in the Aguda area of Lagos after a school building accommodating nursery and secondary school students suddenly collapsed.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred around noon while students and staff were inside the building. The witness said the structure began showing warning signs moments before the collapse.

The eyewitness explained that stones started falling from parts of the building while cracks gradually appeared on the interior walls, creating fear among those present.

“Stones were falling and we started noticing cracks on the walls from inside. People began shouting and everyone rushed outside,” the eyewitness said.

Sensing the danger, students, teachers and other staff members quickly evacuated the building.

Moments after the evacuation, the structure reportedly collapsed completely.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded as those inside the building managed to escape before it came down.

The incident caused panic in the neighbourhood as residents and passersby gathered at the scene shortly after the collapse. The development has also raised concerns about the safety and structural integrity of buildings used as schools in densely populated areas.
