Tinubu Names Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister, Puts Forward Enikanolaiye as Minister of State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on April 29, 2026.

According to the statement, Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, will now head the ministry as substantive minister.

In the same announcement, the President has put forward Sola Enikanolaiye for the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate.

“President Tinubu has approved the selection of Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of Foreign Affairs as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements,” Onanuga stated.

He added that the move to present Enikanolaiye reflects the administration’s intention to bring experience and continuity into the country’s foreign service leadership.

“Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, a seasoned diplomat with over three decades of service, is expected to support the ministry in advancing Nigeria’s strategic interests globally,” the statement read.

Until his consideration for the role, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations and has held several key diplomatic positions, including postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

The presidency said the changes form part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy for greater efficiency and stronger international partnerships.

President Tinubu also urged the appointees to remain committed to promoting national interest, deepening economic diplomacy, and ensuring the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.

“Both individuals are expected to deploy their wealth of experience in strengthening Nigeria’s voice on the global stage and fostering regional and international cooperation,” Onanuga added.
