A member of the National Youth Service Corps, Lohina Bamaiyi Ajegena, has died after falling ill shortly after arriving at the orientation camp in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Reports indicate that she became sick within days of the commencement of camp activities and passed away on April 27, 2026. News of her death was confirmed by fellow corps members, many of whom have taken to social media to express shock and grief.
One of her colleagues, Augustine Pamela, recounted that they met while travelling to Maiduguri and became close during the orientation programme. She said the late corps member’s condition worsened about six days into camp, prompting her to step in and assist.
Pamela added that she later developed similar symptoms and both of them were admitted to the same hospital, where Lohina eventually died.
The incident has left other corps members at the camp shaken, as tributes continue to pour in for the deceased.
