FG Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare, Declares May 1 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to improving workers’ welfare and boosting productivity, as it declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

He commended Nigerian workers for their resilience and dedication, describing their role as central to the country’s development and economic progress.

The minister also called on workers to remain committed to their responsibilities, emphasizing the need for patriotism and increased productivity to drive sustainable growth.

Tunji-Ojo assured that the government would continue to prioritise policies aimed at enhancing workers’ welfare, strengthening security, and creating a more enabling environment for economic activities.
