Lagos Businesswoman and a Friend Allegedly Raped After Falling for Fake N140k Modelling Job Offer

A Lagos-based content creator and thrift vendor, Fems Thrift, has alleged that she and a friend were sexually assaulted after being lured to a fraudulent modelling job in Ajao Estate, Lagos State. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, February 8, highlighting growing concerns over online job scams targeting young creatives in Nigeria.

In a video shared on her TikTok page, Fems recounted that the ordeal began after she was contacted by a man on Instagram. He claimed to have recently returned from the United Kingdom to establish an international fashion brand in Nigeria and offered her N140,000 to participate in a modelling assignment, asking her to promote the brand on her social media platforms.

“I was told there would be a full production team, including a make-up artist, so I felt it was legitimate,” Fems said. For safety, she brought along a friend. “My friend was already with me, so she accompanied me for safety,” she added.

The duo, however, alleges that upon arrival, the situation quickly turned dangerous, culminating in the alleged sexual assault. Details of the incident are currently under investigation. Fems has urged authorities to ensure justice is served. “This should not happen to anyone else. People need to be careful about these online job offers, especially when they promise high payments,” she said.

This case underscores a rising trend in online scams targeting aspiring models and content creators, particularly through social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Experts warn that fraudsters often use the lure of high-paying modelling jobs to exploit young creatives.
