The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has concluded its national convention, described by party leaders as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
In a post-convention statement, former presidential candidate and prominent political figure Peter Obi praised the successful conduct of the exercise, saying it was achieved “against all odds” and reflected the resilience of democratic institutions and party members.
He expressed appreciation to the party leadership, particularly the National Chairman, David Mark, whom he described as providing “calm and steady guidance” during critical moments of the process.
Obi also commended the convention organising committee led by Lyle Imoke, noting that their “diligence, sacrifice, and attention to detail” ensured the success of the event.
He further extended gratitude to delegates, party faithful, volunteers, supporters across Nigeria and abroad, and Nigerians at large, stating that their commitment demonstrated that “democracy thrives when the people refuse to give up on it.”
According to him, the successful convention should mark not just a moment of celebration, but a transition into greater responsibility and national engagement.
“Nigeria is facing very serious challenges economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and a general sense of uncertainty among our people. These issues require urgent attention, clear thinking, and decisive action,” he said.
He stressed that the outcome of the convention must translate into a renewed commitment to nation-building, stronger institutions, and practical solutions that restore hope to citizens.
Obi called for unity, sacrifice, and integrity among political actors, urging them to prioritise national interest above personal ambition and division.
“The way forward demands unity, sacrifice, and integrity. We must put Nigeria first, above personal interests, above politics, and above all forms of division,” he stated.
