The Kogi State Government has strengthened its drive to improve access to quality education with the commissioning of the GYB Model Secondary School, Nagazi, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at expanding learning opportunities across the state.
The development was highlighted during the official commissioning of the facility, where federal and state officials underscored the importance of sustained investment in the education sector as a driver of national development.
Speaking at the event, a representative of the Federal Ministry of Education described education as central to the country’s future, stating, “Education remains the most powerful investment in our future.
” The official noted that the establishment of modern learning facilities reflects deliberate efforts to improve human capital development.
The federal representative commended the administration of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for its commitment to education reform, particularly through the establishment of GYB Mega Schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He said the initiative, combined with the state’s free education policy, is helping to reduce barriers to access and improve enrolment in public schools. “Initiatives like these are lifting barriers and creating opportunities for young people,” he said.
Describing the newly commissioned school as a model for educational development, he added, “This is a strong example of what deliberate investment in education can achieve at the subnational level.”
The official also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting states through the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He stated, “We will continue to work with states to ensure that no Nigerian child is left behind in accessing quality education.”
The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Elder Comrade Joel Salifu, was also acknowledged for the warm reception extended to the federal delegation during the commissioning.
The event forms part of broader efforts by both federal and state governments to strengthen education infrastructure, improve learning conditions, and deepen reforms in the sector.
