Wike Says FCT, Rivers Polls Signal Growing Trust in Tinubu’s Reforms

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the outcome of the recent Area Council elections in Abuja and the by election in Rivers State as evidence of strengthening political alignment around President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda.

Speaking on the results, Wike revealed the electoral gains recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) reflect what he called “a growing national consensus” in support of the administration’s policies.

“The results of the FCT Area Council elections and the Rivers by-election clearly demonstrate that Nigerians are beginning to see the impact of President Tinubu’s reforms,This is not just about party victory; it is about public confidence in governance,” Wike said.

The Minister pointed to the APC’s performance across several Area Councils in the FCT, including wins in hinterland communities, as a significant shift in the territory’s political dynamics.

“For the first time, the APC secured councillorship seats in some rural communities where it had never won before. That tells you that something is changing at the grassroots, People are responding to policies that directly affect their daily lives.” he stated.

He added that the party’s strong showing in local council chairmanship positions further underscores expanding grassroots engagement.

Commenting on the Rivers State by-election, Wike described the outcome as the product of a broad-based political alliance.

“What you are seeing in Rivers is a rainbow coalition a coming together of different political interests in support of stability and progress, It reflects a wider alignment with the Renewed Hope agenda of the President,” he said.

Wike maintained that the results from both the FCT and Rivers signal a period of political realignment shaped by governance performance and reform direction.

“These outcomes show that electoral success is increasingly tied to tangible results and credible leadership. Nigerians are watching, and they are responding accordingly,” he added.
