Sunmbo Adeoye has opened up about the painful realities of public judgment and stigma she faced after her past relationship with legendary singer 2Baba, revealing that the controversy surrounding her history even led to some church members leaving after her marriage to Pastor David Adeoye.
Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Afolabi Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Sunmbo reflected on how her past continued to follow her into her new life, despite her efforts to embrace faith and purpose.
She disclosed that her marriage to Pastor Adeoye was met with criticism and resistance from some people within the church community, with a number of members choosing to leave because they could not look beyond her past.
“People left the church, and it hurt,” she admitted, describing the emotional toll of the experience.
Sunmbo, however, stressed that her husband did not marry her out of pity or in an attempt to fix her past. Instead, she described their union as divinely orchestrated and intentional.
She also shared that she made a conscious decision not to allow her past define her future, explaining that she learned to see her experiences as part of a larger purpose.
“That season taught me that God has a purpose for everyone,” she said, adding that pain often becomes meaningful when connected to purpose.
Sunmbo further revealed that she avoided the pressure to constantly explain herself or defend her past to critics.
“Just resist the need to shalaye,” she said, encouraging others to focus on their journey rather than public opinion.
According to her, her faith helped her navigate the criticism and emotional challenges, as she surrendered her plans and allowed God to direct her path.
“I threw away the Google Map and allowed God to navigate my journey,” she added.
Her story has since resonated with many, highlighting themes of healing, faith, and resilience in the face of stigma and public scrutiny.
