DSS Arrests Man Over Alleged Threats to Peter Obi After Edo Attack

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly threatening former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following an attack in Benin, Edo State.

The arrest comes days after Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, disclosed that Obi and several leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were attacked last Tuesday at the residence of party chieftain, John Odigie-Oyegun, in Benin.

In the aftermath of the incident, a social media user identified as Udeme Stephen allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack in a post on his X account, with a user name @stevetom788.

In the post, he reportedly described Obi as “lucky” to have survived the Edo attack and warned of further violence during a planned visit to Rivers State.

According to a security source, the DSS launched a covert investigation immediately after the online threats surfaced.

“The Service acted swiftly to verify the authenticity of the threats and trace the individual behind the account,Using digital forensic tools, operatives tracked the suspect to Rivers State.” the source said.

The suspect, said to be a teacher at Jessica High School in Eliozu, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

Security officials have not disclosed further operational details but confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement, including any possible links to the earlier attack in Edo State.

The DSS has yet to issue an official public statement on the arrest as of press time.
