ICPC Calls for Stronger Forensic Capabilities to Fight Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called for strengthened forensic capabilities to address increasingly complex corruption and financial crimes.

Mr. Okwudiri Oparaodu, Secretary to the Commission, made the call during the opening of a two-day capacity-building workshop for ICPC personnel, titled ‘Harnessing Forensic Capabilities in the Investigation of Corrupt Practices and Financial Frauds.

“Forensic investigation is now a cornerstone of modern law enforcement, The integrity of your investigation rests on the robustness of your forensic application. Any lapse could undermine months of investigative work in court,” Oparaodu said.

He urged participants to apply the training diligently, stating: “Pay meticulous attention to investigative procedures to ensure credible, verifiable, and defensible outcomes.”

Mr. Oparaodu also commended the CDD for its partnership, noting This cross-cutting capacity building will foster a holistic understanding of forensic applications across the Commission’s operations.”

Mr. Ahmed Abdul, Head of ICPC External Cooperation Unit, encouraged participants to use the knowledge gained to strengthen operational efficiency.

Representing the CDD, Mrs. Titilayo Olaniyan said: “The effective deployment of forensic techniques, coupled with proper evidence management and modernised investigative methods, is essential for strengthening law enforcement and prosecution.”
