The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
“I extend my warm congratulations to all Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan,” the minister said.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the fasting period.
“I urge all Muslims to uphold and continue to practice the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice beyond the رمضان period,” he stated.
He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national unity and progress.
“This festive period should be used to pray for the peace, unity, and prosperity of our dear nation,” he added.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid celebration, the minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged.
“As we celebrate, let us do so responsibly and extend kindness and support to the less privileged in our society,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
“The Federal Government remains committed to fostering national unity and ensuring peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians,” he affirmed.
