Explosion at Kebbi General Hospital Sparks Security Alert in Bagudo

An early-morning explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Tuesday triggered heightened security measures, though no casualties were recorded.

Residents of Bagudo were thrown into panic in the early hours of Tuesday following a loud explosion within the premises of the General Hospital. The incident prompted the immediate deployment of a joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military and local vigilante groups to secure the area.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, confirmed the incident, stating that specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units had been deployed to conduct a detailed technical assessment.

“Our EOD-CBRN experts are currently on ground assessing the situation and ensuring the safety of the area,” Anisma said.

He disclosed that no loss of life or injuries were recorded, adding that the explosion caused damage to a building within the hospital’s staff quarters. According to him, occupants of the affected structure were safely evacuated.

“There were no casualties, but one of the buildings in the staff quarters sustained damage. All occupants were evacuated without incident,” he added.

Anisma further revealed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the reinforcement of security in Bagudo, with additional tactical units deployed to maintain public order as investigations continue.

“Security has been strengthened in the area while a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing,” he stated.

The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and to stay away from the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security and investigative operations to proceed without hindrance.
