Fuel Price Hike a Global Reality, Not Just Nigeria’s Problem — Reno Omokri

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has urged Nigerians to stop criticizing the country over rising fuel costs, arguing that petrol price increases are a global issue, not unique to Nigeria.

Omokri made the remarks after revealing that he spent the equivalent of ₦115,000 on petrol during a recent visit to the United States, using the experience to highlight the global nature of fuel price hikes.

In a video he shared online, Omokri documented his visit to a filling station in the U.S., where he showed the cost of petrol and converted it to Nigerian currency to drive home his point. According to him, the high cost of fuel is being felt worldwide due to multiple factors, including global oil market fluctuations, inflation, and geopolitical tensions.

He cautioned Nigerians against what he described as “unfair criticism” of the country, stressing that blaming only the Nigerian government ignores the broader international realities affecting fuel prices.

“Stop condemning Nigeria. Fuel price hike is not a Nigerian problem; it is a global issue,” Omokri said.

“I just bought petrol here in the United States, and when you convert it to naira, it is about ₦115,000. This shows clearly that Nigerians are not alone in this situation,” he added.

He further noted, “We must begin to look at these issues objectively and understand the global dynamics at play rather than always assuming it is a local failure.”

Omokri’s comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing with his perspective on global fuel trends, while others insist that local economic policies still play a significant role in determining fuel prices within the country.
