FG Opens Applications for Second TVET Cohort

The Federal Government has opened applications for the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, in a renewed push to tackle youth unemployment and promote skills acquisition across Nigeria.

Announcing the development in a statement on April 13, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is designed to strengthen human capital development nationwide.

“This programme is a strategic intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at equipping our youth with practical, market-relevant skills that will enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential,” Alausa said.

According to the ministry, the programme will provide participants with hands-on training lasting between six months and one year in accredited centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Beneficiaries will also receive a monthly stipend of ₦22,500 and a nationally recognised certificate upon completion.

“Beyond certification, we are focused on ensuring that participants gain real, hands-on experience that prepares them for the demands of today’s job market,” the minister added.

The training will focus on high-demand sectors including ICT, construction, agriculture, automotive technology, creative media, fashion, cosmetology, tourism, catering, and leather works areas considered critical for boosting employability and entrepreneurship among Nigerian youth.

The ministry further disclosed a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism to expand opportunities within the creative and cultural industries.

“Our collaboration with the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism will open up new opportunities in Nigeria’s growing creative economy, allowing young people to turn their talents into sustainable livelihoods,” he said.

To ensure transparency and accountability, attendance will be tracked using biometric systems, while payment of stipends will be tied to compliance. Applicants are required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during registration through the official portal.

The government urged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the initiative, describing it as a key step toward improving economic productivity and reducing unemployment across the country.

“We encourage all eligible Nigerians to seize this opportunity to acquire relevant skills, contribute to national development, and build a better future for themselves,” Alausa stated.
